  • Have you completed your outline? Spend the entire day of Saturday watching Netflix with the family.

False. Because everything I had written was still fresh in my mind as I continued writing, I’ve found that the faster I can write a book, the fewer structural revisions I need to do afterward. This is because my brain is constantly processing everything I’ve written as I work on the book.

In addition, having a marathon day is the most effective way to produce a large number of words all at once. Do you believe that you have the capability to write 10,000 words in a single day? 12,000? It is not impossible.

There are times when authors experience writer’s block for no apparent reason other than the fact that they have some words bottled up inside of them that need to be released. Simply starting to write, no matter what you’re writing about, can be an effective method for overcoming writer’s block.

It may be your novel project, or it may simply be a stream of consciousness in which you describe what you are thinking at that particular time. Because of this, you will quickly get back into the swing of writing, and before you know it, you will be working on the novel again.

Freewriting allows you to practice and improve your prose writing at the same time. It’s a win for both sides.

23. Watch Over Your Physical Well-Being

I seriously considered leaving this out, but I’ve come to realize its significance.

Myth: The state of your physical health has no bearing on the amount of writing you get done. Since you write while sitting in a chair, you might think that your diet and the amount of exercise you get aren’t as important.

Wrong!

My experience has shown that when I consume an unhealthy diet that is high in sugary snacks and low in vegetables, I experience a significant increase in my level of daytime fatigue. This is the case with almost all of the authors that I’ve had conversations with. Both your diet and your level of physical activity have an effect on your mental state, and these factors have an effect on your writing.

Now, I’m not a physician, and none of what I’m about to say should be taken as doctor advice, but I think it’s pretty obvious to say that maintaining a healthy diet and lifestyle and getting regular exercise will help you write more quickly.

Tips to Write Fast: How do you speed up your writing?

If you just choose one or more of the writing tips and tricks detailed above, you’ll be able to write faster and better. These include things like designating a specific amount of time for writing, outlining your story, avoiding editing as you write, and rewarding yourself when you reach a milestone in your writing.

Be consistent. Don’t be too critical of your own actions. Employ the Pomodoro Technique to get more done. Continually test yourself by trying to outdo your previous word count score. The best way to improve is to practice. This is the most efficient way to write.

Setting a regular schedule for yourself, turning off your grammar and spell check for a period of time, and rewarding yourself are, in my opinion, the most effective ways to increase your writing speed. See what works best for you.

Tips to Write Fast: How can you write more quickly for National Novel Writing Month? 

National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) is a challenge that many authors choose to participate in. The goal is to write at least 50,000 words in one month. You can increase your writing speed for National Novel Writing Month by using the Pomodoro Technique, scheduling time when you won’t be interrupted, outlining and researching your novel in advance, and avoiding editing while you write.

Know that there is no scheme that promises “get rich quick, write fast, easy.” It requires a lot of effort. You will need to put in a lot of effort if writing is something that you truly want to do as a career. It is my hope that the resources and advice from industry professionals that are provided in this article make the challenging work that much more manageable.
